Extract: A computer simulation model of the corn wet milling process was constructed and used to estimate the cost of producing high fructose corn syrup. The model simulates plants with capacities of 36,000, 72,000 and 108,000 bushels per day. Costs were estimated for the three plant sizes at varying corn prices and lengths of operating period. The impacts of other input and output prices were explored for the 36,000 bushel plant size. Significant size economies were discovered with estimated syrup costs lower than indicated by earlier studies.
