Premakumari, S. | Geetha, G. | Devadas, Rajammal P.
Extract: The availability of calcium from tree lettuce to school children was studied in comparison with that available from amaranthus using school lunch as a medium, over a period of three months. None of the children in the three experimental groups had a deficiency in calcium intake. As the intake of calcium increased, the excretion of calcium through urine also increased. The apparent calcium absorption per cent and mean calcium balance observed for the groups receiving 5 g and 25g of tree lettuce were 41:41 and 40:08, and +79 and +144 mg respectively. Both the groups had better calcium utilization than the group receiving 25g of amaranthus.
