Factors Affecting the Emergence of Sugar Beets in an Irrigated Desert Environment
1966
Robinson, Frank E. | Worker, George F.
Irrigation reduced soil temperature approximately 20F below unirrigated soil. Sprinkler irrigation was shown to be most effective in removing surface salt accumulations and this irrigation treatment gave the highest emergence. Intermittent furrow irrigation appears to be a much better practice than the continuous irrigation which is in wide commercial use. Lime seed row covering shows promise in improving the emergence and growth rate of seedlings.
