The Mediterranean grazing ecosystems of the Golan Heights
1995
Ish-Shalom-Gordon, N.
Native pasture ecosystems were studied in the northern, central and southern regions of the Golan Heights. The grazing quality as characterized by total plant cover and cover of grasses and legumes was highest in the central region, lowest in the northern, and intermediate in the southern region. These results could be explained by the different grazing practices. The northern region was the most floristically rich, with the highest number of rare plants, and the highest tree cover. The different dominant species in each region probably reflect the combined effect of climate, soil, and grazing pressure.
