Drug passage into breast milk: principles and concerns
1987
Gardner, D.K.
A technical overview discusses the principles of drug transport into the breast milk of lactating mothers and some of the concerns and controversies that the presence of maternal drugs in mother's milk may have relative to the quality of the milk and the potential effects on the nursing infant. Attention also is given to the absorption and elimination of drugs by the infant and strategies for minimizing infant drug exposure. Drugs affecting milk composition/yield are addressed, arguing that drugs not compatible with breast feeding should be substituted by those that are.
