Influence of multi-holed shakers on salting on food
1984
Greenfield, Heather | Smith, Alison M. | Wills, R.B.H.
A study of table salt usage (weighing salt shakers before and after use) by 2241 Australian adults having their main meals at a cafeteria revealed that (1) salt use was linearly related to the size of the shaker holes and was unrelated to the number of shaker holes; (2) salt use was less for multi-hole (5, 9, or 13 holes) than for single-hole shakers having the same size holes; and (3) that the least salt usage (0.37g/meal) was noted for single hole shakers having a 3 square-mm hole.
