It is uncertain whether there are any clear differences in food preferences between the sexes. Many studies are mentioned on topics such as preference for sweets, cheese versus sweet desserts, taste preference between offered foods, meals consumed, food preferred or disliked, and breakfast eating habits. Two national surveys in the U.S. and Canada, and the influence of nutrition knowledge on eating habits, are described. The only firm conclusions appearing in the scattered literature are that women have a greater preference for fruit, a lesser preference for milk, and a more adventurous palate, and that more men eat a cooked breakfast (in Great Britain).
