Persistence of thiodicarb applied @ 500 and 1000 g a.i. ha⁻¹ to a clay loam soil in pots at field capacity moisture is reported. Samples drawn on 0, 1, 3, 7, 15, 30, 60 and 90 days after insecticide application and analyzed by GC-FTD revealed the total residue of thiodicarb and its metabolite in soil after 7 days of its application as 0.032 and 0.052 mg kg⁻¹ respectively at the two doses. The residues dissipated below the limit of determination/quantification (LODe/LOQ) of 0.005 mg kg⁻¹ after 30 days of application at both the dosages. Half-life of total thiodicarb (thiodicarb+methomyl) was 9.64 and 11.64 days at the lower and higher doses respectively. Half-life values for thiodicarb and methomyl separately were 6.53 and 8.71; and 6.15 and 6.49 days at the respective doses. Dissipation was approximated to first order kinetics for thiodicarb, methomyl and total thiodicarb.
