To enhance the fruit sugar content and disease resistance in melon, we carried out a backcross and pedigree breeding program using 'Busan 902' as the donor parent for resistance to powdery mildew and gummy stem blight and 'Busan 903' as the recurrent parent. The selection and fixation of the pedigree lines have been conducted over seven generations from 1993 to 1997. 'Busan 926', the elite line which was finally selected, bears round oval-shaped fruits with shallow grooves. The fruit weight is about 600 g, and the color of fruit skin and fruit flesh is greenish yellow and light green, respectively. The soluble solids content of fruit reaches to 15~17º Bx and the fruit storability is very fine because of firm fruit texture. In addition, the line is resistant to powdery mildew and gummy stem blight and therefore, is promising as an intermediate stock to develop multiple disease- resistant melon variety.
