A total of 130, day old broiler chicks were divided randomly at 2 weeks of age into 13 groups of 10 birds each. Three field isolates of Eimeria tenella from three different villages in Hisar district were isolated and efficacy of three most commonly used anticoccidial drugs viz. diclazuril, maduramicin and clopidol were assessed. Artificial infection of E. tenella was established at the end of third week of age and prophylactic medication with these three drugs was given separately in feed. The medication started from two days before infection and continued up to day 7 post infection. Efficacy of drugs were assessed by calculating the “global index”. Diclazuril showed good efficacy against Hisar isolate-I and Hisar isolate-III while partial resistance was recorded in Hisar isolate-II. Hisar isolate-I showed partial resistance and Hisar isolate II showed resistance to maduramicin while the drug proved to have limited efficacy against Hisar isolate –III. A partial or complete resistance to clopidol was seen in all the three isolates. It was concluded that diclazuril may be continued still for the treatment of caecal coccidiosis in broiler chicks in the Hisar region while the other two drugs may be discontinued for their further use.
