An integrative Agrobacterium tumifaciens vector system was used to transfer the endotoxin gene of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. Kurstaki HD-1-Dipel, which is toxic for a number of lepidopterans, to Nicotiana tabacum plants under the control of various promoter sequences: the promoter of the 1' gene of Agrobacterium T-DNA, the 1' and 35S RNA promoter tandem of cauliflower mosaic virus (the CaMV35S promoter), add the 1' and CaMV35S tandem with duplicated enhancer. The portion of the gene corresponding to the C-terminal domain of the delta-endotoxin protein was preliminarily removed, add the remainder, corresponding to the toxic domain, was provided with a translation-terminating codon. The presence of the modified delta-endotoxin gene in the Nicotiana tabacum plants was demonstrated by Southern blotting.
