A new route for organic polyoxometallic clusters describes the first dumb-bell-like organic polyoxozirconium hydroxide [{(Cp*Zr)₄(μ₅-O)(μ₃-O)₂(μ-OH)₄}₂Zr(μ-O)₄]·2C₇H₈ (2; Cp* = C₅Me₅) involving the treatment of the Brønsted acidic organozirconium hydroxide [(Cp*Zr)₆(μ₄-O)(μ-O)₄(μ-OH)₈]·2C₇H₈ (1) with organozirconium compounds.
