Abstract: This article is a report of a meeting of investigators involved in the study of marginal micronutrient deficiencies. The meeting was held under the auspices of the World Health Organization in Geneva on December 7-9, 1987. The participants examined data relevant to the relationship between marginal nutritional status and physiological functions such as exercise performance, immune function, and behavioral, cognitive, and social-emotional function. The present state of research is examined and promising future research is outlined.
