Diet and atherosclerosis: Past, present and future
1979
Glueck, Charles J. | Connor, William E.
Nutritional advisory groups from other nations have advised their citizens to lessen intakes of animal and saturated fats in their diets. It is now generally accepted that the beginnings of atherosclerosis is in childhood. Dietary modification in children is a suggested treatment but this is not universally accepted. Major risk factors for coronary heart disease are identified as age, sex, hypocholesterolemia, hypertension, cigarette smoking, and diabetes. Various studies show a close relationship between dietary saturated fats, blood lipids, and coronary heart disease. Additional studies are underway that compare diet, smoking and hypertension.
