The effect of cutting methods and sod treatments on the yield and protein content of carpet grass, Axonopus affinus Chase
1946
Blaser, R.E.
Carpet grass was clipped with two types of mowers at various heights and frequencies and given two mechanical sod treatments to measure the effect on yield and protein content. Close clipping of carpet gras produced the highest yields of high protein herbage. Frequency of clipping was relatively unimportant, provided a vegetative growth stage was maintained. The yields of grass mowed with a lawn mower were significantly less than yields of grass clipped with a power mower. Treading or chopping of sod did not influence yields appreciably. It may be concluded that simulated grazing techniques influence the yield and quality of herbage which, in turn, affects the efficiency of experiments with pasture plants.
