The present investigation was carried out in kharif 2011–12 at experimental farm college of agriculture Kolhapur, tofindout the efficacy of chitin synthesis inhibitors against S. litura on soybean under field conditions. Under field conditions, lufenuron was emerged as the most effective treatment on the basis of larval count, per cent leaf damage and grain yield, it was followedby flufenoxuron, novaluron, and diflubenzuron. The average larval count, per cent pod damage and grain yield in the different treatments ranged from 0.32 to 3.00, and 1076.83 to 2064.35 kg/ha, respectively as against 9.005, and 826.88 kg/ha, respectively in untreated control. The treatments with lufenuron 0.006 per cent dominated over all other treatments which recorded highest grain yield (2064.35 kg/ha), and registered 0.32 average larval/plant, and 2064.35 kg grain yield/ha. All the treatments except chlorpyriphos were effective in controlling the S. litura population and all the treatments were observed to be significantly superior over untreated control. Chitin synthesis inhibitors due to its specificity and safety towards non-target organisms are an ideal products and could be used in alternations with conventional chemical insecticides. The findings of the present studies are useful in determining the most effective concentration as well as interval between treatments with chitin inhibitors for the management of S. litura.
