Introduction: Obesity is a disease, considered one of the main public health problems. And it is related to the emergence of other Chronic Noncommunicable Diseases (DTAS). However, it is a condition that can be faced and reversed. For this there are several forms of treatment, among them the group methodology stands out, which has been strongly indicated. Objective: to evaluate behavioral and dietary changes in patients with obesity after a therapeutic group intervention in Basic Health Units in the city of Caicó-RN. Methods: This is a quasi-experimental intervention study. The sample consisted of 50 individuals, of both sexes, in which the questionnaires for the Assessment of Stages of Change in Weight Loss (Transtheoretical Model) were applied; Binge Eating Scale (ECAP); Stunkard's Silhouette Scale (Body Image) and Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). Nutritional status was evaluated through anthropometric measurements. Results: Improvements in behavioral attitudes were observed for the group with high adherence to the intervention, with evaluation of the Transtheoretical Model, ECAP and perception of body image. Changes in food consumption with increased intake of raw salad, vegetables and fruits (p=0.049, 0.030 and 0.001, respectively. And reduction of anthropometric measures BMI, WC, AC and %BF (p=0.003; 0.008; 0.015 and 0.024, respectively) between the two evaluation moments. Conclusion: It is noteworthy that this strategy proved to be positive for coping with obesity, however, there is a need for more studies for a reference base that encourages its application in the actions of health teams.
