Effect of organic amendments on root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) in cucumber
2016
Field experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of organic amendments viz., vermicompost, mustard oil cake, neem cake, poultry manure and FYM against root-knot nematode (Meloidogyne incognita) in cucumber. All organic amendments were applied on the spot 15 days before sowing the seeds in the respective treatment plots. The result revealed that application of neem cake @ 1t/ha was effective in suppressing the nematode multiplication in soil and increasing plant growth parameters and yield of cucumber. The treatment reduced the number of galls per root system, number of eggmass, number of eggs per eggmass and final nematode population to the tune of 76.96, 64.20, 18.87 and 55.89 per cent, respectively over untreated control. There was also 26.90, 44.47, 28.66, 40.87, 52.63 and 78.69 per cent of increase in shoot length, root length, fresh shoot weight, dry shoot weight, fresh root weight and dry root weight of cucumber, respectively when neem cake was applied @ 1t/ha over untreated control.
