Childhood obesity associated with the excessive consumption of soft drinks and fruit juices
1997
Levine, B.
The increasing prevalence of obesity in young children and adolescents should be a serious cause for concern among pediatricians and other primary caregivers with respect to the present and future well-being of children. While the recognition of obesity in adults has been taken seriously by health care providers, obesity in children has received less serious attention. A marked reduction in the amount of high-calorie fruit and soft drink beverages consumed by children and adolescents is an important step in reducing childhood obesity. Pediatricians should counsel parents and caretakers about the importance of liquid nutrition, focusing on helping children develop good nutritional habits during their formative years.
