Study of the genetic relationships within the subgenus Prunophora. Restriction maps of the ribosomal genes in P. cerasifera and P. spinosa

In order to understand the phylogeny of the Prunus species and especially the one of the domestic plum, a cytogenetic study was carried out on interspecific hybrids obtained with the following species: P. cerasifera, P. spinosa, P. domestica or P. insititia. It enabled us to determine the chromosomic homologies between the different genomes and led us to put in question the participation of P. spinosa in the genesis of hexaploid plums. To complement these cytogenetic studies, we decided to try other methods in particular the analysis of Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP). The restriction maps of ribosomal genes (rDNA) tend to indicate that P. spinosa exhibits specific units of the species but also units identical to those of the species P. cerasifera. The study of the restriction patterns of the hexaploid plums does not yet permit the establishment of a definitive map.
