British attitudes to eating
1984
A recent study carried out on behalf of the British Nutrition Foundation examined the eating practices and attitude toward food of 1531 adults and 386 children. Some of the results, as reported at the 6th annual conference of the British Nutrition Foundation were summarized. "Proper meals" are fundamental to our culture and are important to good health. The taste of food is of prime importance, so there is a marked tendency to eat as wide a variety as possible of favorite foods. Eating in moderation is wise. And finally, if you feel well and you are not overweight, your present diet must be satisfactory. Tabular data is presented on number of meals and non-meals eaten and numbers claiming to have eaten a "proper meal" the previous day. (emc)
