An experiment was conducted on 120 WL hens to measure the dietary effects of methionine and protein in corn-soya and wheatsoya based diets on egg production and quality attributes in early laying stage (from 21–33 wks of age). Ten experimental diets (each diet replicated 12 times) were tested in which 5 diets was wheat-soya based and 5 was corn-soya based having 20 or 16% crude protein. The results revealed that change in body weight, feed intake, FCR, egg production and egg quality traits (shape index, albumen index and yolk index) did not differ due to dietary treatments. Egg weight was higher (P<0.01) in wheat-soya meal based diet having 20% CP + 25% higher methionine than maize-soya bean meal based diets. The egg specific gravity, eggshell weight and shell thickness were significantly (P<0.01) higher in maize-soya bean meal based diet having 20% CP than other diets. Yolk colour was significantly (P<0.01) higher in maize-soya bean meal based diets than the wheat based diets. It was concluded that replacement of maize with wheat in pullet's diet having 20.0% protein and 25.0% higher methionine than NRC (1994) can increase the egg size (weight) during early stage (18–30 wks of age) of egg production cycle.
