Jadhav, R.K. | Bhikane, A.U. | Agivale, S.M.
Twenty bovines affected with pneumonia were treated with Marbofloxacin and evaluated for therapeutic efficacy. Cattle showing clinical signs of fever, anorexia, suspended rumination, nasal discharge, coughing and respiratory distress were subjected to clinical examination, hematology and radiological examination. Highly significant elevation in body temperature (102.44±0.40vs. 101.02±0.13), heart rate (68.36±2.15 vs. 57.78±2.07) and respiration rate (43.57±6.37vs. 24.94±0.44)were observed in ailing cattle. Complete blood count analysis revealed highly significant increase in TLC, neutrophils while significant reduction in lymphocyte count in pneumonia affected cattle as compared to healthy cattle. Radiographic examination showed mild to moderate consolidation of lungs in affected cattle. The animals were treated with Marbofloxacin @ 2 mg/kg IM daily for five-eight days along with supportive therapy of Non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, Anti-histaminics and Vitamin B complex for five days. Significant decrease in body temperature, respiration rate and heart rate was observed in recovered cattle after treatment. All treated cattle successfully recovered with average recovery period of 5.31 days.
