Terminalia chebula Retz is widely used by people because of its various pharmacological effects. In the present work, one undescribed gallate, namely terminaliate A (1), along with seven known compounds, including gallic acid (2), methyl gallate (3), three chebulic acid derivatives (4–6), 1,2,6-tri-O-galloyl-β-D-glucopyranose (7), and arjungenin (8), were isolated from the MeOH extract of the fruits of Terminalia chebula Retz. Their structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic methods, including IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR, as well as by comparisons with data reported in the literature. Compounds 1, 5, and 6 reported from the family Combretaceae for the first time. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their α-glucosidase inhibitory effects. Furthermore, the chemotaxonomic significance of the isolates was also discussed.
