Yield-applied water relationships for sprinkle and flood-irrigated alfalfa
1996
Guitjens, J.C.
The ratio of yield (kg/m2) to applied irrigation water (m) was studied using cumulative values for alfalfa harvested several times per year. Three irrigation treatments of two irrigation methods and their yield responses were compared by a statistical contrasting method and modeled using the general linear modeling method to evaluate the correlation. The results showed significant contrasts and significant models. Although yield intercepts of the general linear model differed in some cases, the mean ratio values changed by no more than 3% from harvest to harvest. Incremental yield increases correlated with incremental amounts of applied water although some water applications differed significantly. Sprinkle irrigation was 10 to 11% more efficient than flood irrigation.
