Évaluation et soutien des grandes fonctions du patient polytraumatisé
2013
Barthélemy, A. | Goy-Thollot, I.
The treatment of the polytrauma patient follows a step-wise process aiming to support vital functions. The first step is to support the respiratory function by providing oxygen therapy and appropriate sedation. Development of pneumothorax is a life threatening complication that must be looked for and be addressed by thoracocentesis if present. Then the cardiovascular function must be supported with fluid therapy adapted to the patient's blood volume whose evaluation will be based on specific clinical criteria. In moderate to severe bleeding, blood transfusion will be considered. Finally, support of neurological function will be to consider, by distinguishing head injuries and spinal cord injury.
