Swot analysis of dairy farming as perceived by the dairy owners

The present study was conducted in Najafgarh Tehsil in South West Delhi district considering fifty dairy farms as sample. SWOT analysis of the dairy farming was done on the basis of data collected by using the statements under four categories viz., strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The study revealed that, traditional nature of the milk production (76%) and availability of market for milk (84%) were the strengths as perceived by the dairy farmers, where as labour problem (96%), non availability of the grazing lands (92%), costly nature of the fodder (92%) and scarcity of the skilled workers (90%) were the perceived weaknesses of the dairy farming. The study also revealed that, providing training programmes (72%), providing mechanisation through Government assistance (86%), providing better medical facilities (80%), providing subsidised ration (94%) were the opportunities for the improvement of the dairy farming, where as the non availability of the fodder (78%), continuous electric power problem (74%) were the potential perceived threats regarding dairy farming.
