A study employed a plaque reduction neutralization assay method for determining the rotavirus serotype-specific neutralizing activity and a enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for determining rotavirus-specific antibodies in human milk from mothers in high and lower socioeconomic status (25 mothers each). It was noted that this activity in mothers' milk varied over time. It was concluded that mothers who breast-fed their infants for 6 or more months had higher activities against rotavirus. Differences between socioeconomic status are discussed.(wz)
