Cash-cafeteria school meals: an assessment of nutritional standards in relation to price paid
1986
Parry, A.E.J.
A study of food selection in secondary school cash-cafeterias surveyed food items and their costs selected by teenagers (ages 13-18) and compared the nutrient content of the selected meals with traditionally served school meals and UK Department of Education and Science targets. The results indicated a correlation between food cost and both protein and energy contents. A substantial number of teenagers selected meals of low energy and protein content. It is suggested that strategic pricing might be used to improve the nutritional value of meals selected by school children.(wz)
