Moisture effect on roller milling mustard seed
1994
Zhang, X. | Brusewitz, G.H.
Milling of mustard seed involves size reduction during which the mustard seed's physical properties can be affected by many factors. This study measured the effects of moisture content at the time of milling on the resulting bulk mustard seed physical properties: percent fine, bulk density, and bulk compression force. In the 6.6% to 13.9% moisture content range, percent fine decreased exponentially and bulk density increased linearly with moisture. Moisture content (m.c.) had less effect on bulk compression force. Moisture content, roller mill gap, and mustard seed temperature at milling had interaction effects on the final seed properties.
