Studies on characterization and pathogenicity of Newcastle disease virus isolated from pigeons in Inda
2004
Naveen, K.A. | Singh, S.D.
In present study biological and molecular characterization of seven Newcastle disease (PND) virus isolates of pigeon origin was carried out. All the isolates studied showed variation in pathogenicity tests. There was no correlation between in vivo and in vitro pathogenicity test with regards to pathotypes. Pigeon isolates which differed on the basis of pathotyping tests displayed similar pathogenicity for pigeons on experimental infection. Low titres of pigeon NDV restricts sustained passages in chickens and limited embryo and chicken passages does not have substantial effect on virulence of the virus for chickens.
