The isolation and identification of volatile insect repellents from the fruit of the Osage orange (Maclura pomifera)
2007
Ufkes, L.L. | Grams, G.W.
The fruit of the Osage orange tree, Maclura pomifera (Raf.) Schneid, was tested for repellency using the European house cricket, Gryllus domesticus (L.). After preliminary tests showed the fruit to possess repellent properties, two volatile components of the fruit were isolated and identified by GC/MS. The two isomeric alcohols, isoamyl alcohol and 2-methyl-2-butanol, were found to be repellent both in combination and individually.
