Certain administrative functions are applicable to all operations, while some functions such as scheduling may be applicable only to the decentralized unit. Five areas must be thoroughly reviewed before an operation can be successfully computerized. 1) Software should be available at the unit level to assist with on-site operational needs. 2) Central processors must be compatible with microcomputers. 3) Unit microcomputers must be capable of precessing unit data and transmitting it to the central processor. 4) An adequate number of telephone lines should be available for data tranmission. 5) Electronic cash registers should be compatible with the microcomputer.
