Role Performance of Village Leaders in Dairy Development Activities

Dairying can be used as a tool for poverty alleviation in the country.The share of dairying in the livestock sector accounts for about 65 per cent indicating the significant role of dairying in the socio-economic situation of our country. The present study was conducted in Hingoli district of Marathwada region of Maharashtra State. From the selected district, 3 talukas were randomly selected, where NDDB and BAIF having milk procurement centers and network project on dairy development. Similarly, from these 3 talukas, 30 villages were selected randomly. A total of 150 respondents from 30 villages constituted the sample for the study.The respondents were personally interviewed with a specially designed interview schedule. The broad objectives of this study were to find out the role performance of village leaders in dairy development activities.The results of this study through lights on the activities like artificial insemination programme, implementation of vaccination programme, implementation of deworming programme, establishment of milk procurement centre, clean milk production programme, Shetkari Mandal/farmers, irrigation facilities (well, ponds), eradication of repeat breeding programme, livestock owners tour, rearing of calves, organization of animal health camps, insurance of animal, low cost concentration preparation, fodder production campaign, livestock owners training, enrichment of poor quality roughages, were actively performed by village leaders. Regarding overall role performance majority of village leaders had medium role performance in dairy development activities by using five steps were making people aware of the need, encouraging the people for involvement, helping people to plan the programme, helping people to execute the programme, helping people to evaluate programme.
