Economics of Post Harvest Losses of Chickpea in Northern Hills of Chhattisgarh State

The present study aims to the post harvest of Major pulses in northern hills of Chhattisgarh. The present study was conducted in Ambikapurand Lakhanpur block in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh state. Five villages from each block and ten pulses growing farmer from each village were interviewed for the study. The primary data were collected from the major pulse producers through personal interview by survey method with the help of well prepare schedule and questionnaire for the post harvest losses year 2013–14. The major pulses findings of this study revealed that the on an average the cost of cultivation of chickpea was found Rs. 21813.54 per hectare. Overall on an average the cost of production of chickpea was observed as 4563.50 respectively. The overall average input-output ratio of chickpea was 1: 1.27. The main constraint in pulses production was lack of pests and diseases management, high labour cost and scientific storge availability In case of chickpea. the post harvest losses at the farm level were estimated to be 3.00 kg/q. Thelosses in chickpea was found tobe maximum in storage of grains (30.59%) followed by harvesting (29.43%). study suggested high yielding varieties of chickpea area should be developed for increasing the productivity. To minimize the post harvest losses infrastructural facilities should be developed in the study area.
