Rain water management with three tier systems in ravines affected area of Bundelkhand
2011
Singh, R.A.
The study was conducted on rain water management with three tier system during 2008 and 2009 in Jalaun district of Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh. The main objective was to increase the productivity, profitability & water use efficiency in ravines affected area through double cropping system. In double cropping system of sesamum -wheat, sesamum gave significantly higher seed yield of 448 kg ha⁻¹ under three tier system of rain water management over the yield recorded in other systems of moisture management. Wheat grown after sesamum under three tier system of rain water harvesting gave significantly higher grain yield of 4560 kg ha⁻¹ in comparison to other moisture management practices. Three tier system of rain water management yielded significantly higher black gram of 700 kg ha⁻¹ compared with yield recorded in mono tier, two tier and conventional systems of soil moisture management under black gram- wheat cropping system. Similarly, highest wheat yield of 4618 kg ha⁻¹ was also found in three tier system of rain water management after harvesting of black gram, which was significantly superior over other practices of soil moisture management. The significantly higher wheat equivalent yield of 7248 kg ha⁻¹ was found in sesamum-wheat cropping system compared with wheat equivalent yield of 7068 kg ha⁻¹ recorded in black gram-wheat cropping system under three tier system of rain water management. The highest net return of Rs. 41510 ha⁻¹ was obtained from sesamum- wheat cropping system, which was significantly superior to the net return received from black gram- wheat cropping system (Rs. 41045 ha⁻¹) under three tier system of rain water management.
