Seventeenth annual restaurant growth index
1984
Hall, Jeffrey
A broad-ranged survey of the trends in American society indicate future challenges for the restaurant executive. Slowing population growth in general, with the metropolitan areas, increases in family income, the aging of the general population with rapidly growing numbers of retirees are some of the changes that will have a tremendous future impact on the restaurant business. The most significant demographic trend of the 1970s, through the present is the changing economic status of women. This has brought about an increased base for the restaurant business, more women in the lunchtime population, and possibly may also create a growing demand for breakfast service and more variation in menu items. The accompanying definitions explain the technical aspects of the data contained in the Restaurant Growth Index and the Restaurant Activity index. (emc)
