Grain exports as a source of agricultural instability
1977
Trapp, J.N. | Thompson, S.R.
Large, unexpected and erratic grain exports since 1972 have been hypothesized to be a principle contributor to recent agricultural market instability. this paper reports the results of an empirical analysis of the dynamic effects of increased grain exports in 1972. results indicate that the 1972 grain export increases accounted for nearly all of the 1972 price change for wheat and soybeans but only one fourth of the change in corn price. results of the analysis provide empirical evidence and information which support the hypothesis that unstable exports are a principal contributor to agricultural market instability. evidence and information provided by the results enable a better understanding of the dynamic effects of changes in grain exports on domestic agricultural market stability.
