Effect of life-long dietary protein restriction on RNA synthesis of fractionated rat brain nuclei
1980
Knoll-Kohler, E. | Handke, A.
Rats were mated, and their offspring suckled, weaned and raised in the presence of a low protein (5.5% casein) diet. The in vitro RNA synthesis of cerebral neronal and glial enriched nuclear fractions was studied on day 70 and compared with that of age-matched rats that had received a 17.5% casein diet. A dietary effect on RNA synthesis was found in the glial but not in the neronal, nuclei. The in vitro incorporation rate of 3H-UMP into nuclear glial RNA molecules increase significantly, accompanied by an increase in the number of RNA initiation sites present in the glial chromatin template.
