Plasmodium falciparum, disturbances of cell cycle distribution of erythroblasts more marked in children with chronic malaria than in those with acute infection, data suggests that anemia of chronic infection primarily caused by ineffective erythropoiesis and that of acute infection by peripheral hemolysis
