The key chemical inputs that led to the discovery of the three herbicides CGA 215 684 (a cyclohexanedione), CGA 244 126 (a substituted pyridine) and CGA 152 005 (sulfonylurea) and the plant-growth regulant CGA 163 935 (a cyclohexanedione) are described.
