Food service resources on the Internet
1996
Holmes, Z.A. | Chambers, M.J.
The Internet can be confusing, ever-changing and frustrating as well as a help to those working in food service. It contains excellent information and has superb resources for the food service professional who can discriminate the good from the misleading information. This annotation contains only a select listing of information on associations, commissions, and organizations; consultants, education, and instructional resources; employment, career, and professional development; companies and products; education and instructional resources; equipment and supplies; information resources; news groups; publications and books; recipe resources; and software resources. Because of the transitional nature of the Internet, the locations may change. An annotated bibliography of food service-related sites on the Internet does present a snapshot of the tremendous opportunity and range of services available online by file transfer protocols (FTP) or the more easily used World Wide Web (WWW). While the authors find it somewhat unsettling to be discusssing something where interactivity and linking is such an inherent capability in a static format, this annotation should present a glimmer of the opportunities available on the Internet for those in food service. This annotation contains the location on the Internet as either a FTP or WWW site. As one can discern from reading the location names--also known as addresses or URLs--for example gopher//info.iastate.edu/11/departments/Food%20 Science%20and%20Human%20Nutrio--some can be difficult to type correctly to gain entryway to the WWW. If you are a current Internet user, this file can be located with links at http://www. orst edu/food-resource/index.html.
