The present study was conducted in Chouhtan and Sindari, Panchayat Samities, Barmer district of Rajasthan. The Panchayat Samities were selected maximum number (30) of Front Line Demonstrations on cumin crop during 2011–12 and 2012–13. To increase the productivity of cumin, high yield cumin variety GC-4 was evaluated at farmer's field during Rabi 2011–12 and 2012–13. Thirty demonstrations were conducted at farmer's fields. Grain seed yield of cumin variety GC-4 under improved practices was 5.24 q/ha⁻¹ & 5.27 q/ha⁻¹ increased significantly by 21 per cent over farmer's practice (4.33 q/ha⁻¹ & 4.33 q/ha) during 2011–12 and 2012–13. The ranges of average yield were 3.12–8.30 & 3.21–8.23 in demonstration fields and 2.85 q/ha-4.22 q/ha⁻¹ & 2.72 q/ha⁻¹ - 4.14 q/ha⁻¹ in farmers field during 2011–12 and 2012–13. The technological gap existing between the potential and demonstrable yields was substantial (0.91 q/ha⁻¹ & 0.94 q/ha⁻¹) during 2011–12 and 2012–13. Technology index 19.12% & 19.87% gave evidence that there was a scope for further improvement in the productivity of cumin. The extension gap between the improved technology and farmers practice (4.76 q/ha⁻¹ & 4.73 q/ha⁻¹) during 2011–12 and 2012–13. Therefore, front line demonstration programme was an effective tool for increasing the productivity of crops, adoption of cumin improved variety GC-4 and changing knowledge, attitude and skill of farmers. This created greater awareness and motivated the other farmers to adopt improved practices of cumin.
