Inhibition by superoxide dismutase and catalase of the damage of isolated Leishmania mexicana amazonensis by phenazine methosulfate
1984
Nabi, Z.F. | Rabinovitch, Mordecai
Leishmania mexicana amazonensis, toxicity of phenazine methosulfate (PMS) for cell-free promastigotes and amastigotes is abolished or reduced by superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase suggesting that superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide subserve role in damage of parasite by the dye, SOD did not modify effect of PMS on amastigotes within macrophages, SOD also protects promastigotes from damage induced by oxygen intermediates generated by xanthine-xanthine oxidase system, killing of parasites by crystal violet or basic blue 24 was not inhibited by SOD
