Starch based plastics and films
1975
Otey, F.H. | Westhoff, R.P. | Russell, C.R.
Rapid growth of plastics poses problems of their disposal and flammability. Because starch and certain starch-derived materials are biodegradable, flame-resistant, and available at relatively low cost, their use in plastics could greatly reduce the cited problems. This investigation is primarily aimed at the use of starch for making biodegradable films, especially for agricultural mulch; disposable rigid plastics that are used once or for only a short time and then discarded; and flame-resistant polyurethane foams.
