Genetic variability, correlation and path analysis for yield and its attributing traits in small flowered chrysanthemum
2014
Sahu, Mohan | Sharma, Gaurav
Genetic variability, correlation and path analysis were studied for twelve characters in twenty one genotypes of small flowered chrysanthemum obtained from diverse sources. High magnitude of GCV and PCV were observed for number of ray florets flower ⁻¹, average flower weight, number of leaves plant⁻¹, number of branches plant⁻¹, number of flowers plant⁻¹, floret length and plant spread. The PCV was higher in magnitude than the GCV for all the characters studied. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was noticed for number of leaves plant⁻¹, number of ray florets flower⁻¹, number of branches plant⁻¹, number of flowers plant⁻¹, average flower weight, floret length, flower diameter, plant height, plant spread and days to 1ˢᵗ bud appearance. In general, values of correlation coefficient at the genotypic levels were higher than the phenotypic correlation coefficient indicating an inherent association among various characters and the genotypic superiority. Number of flowers plant⁻¹ had highly positive significant association with number of branches and number of leaves plant⁻¹and positive significant association with plant spread at genotypic level. Path-coefficient analysis revealed that, at genotypic level, positive direct effect on number of flowers plant⁻¹was expressed by plant height followed by number of leaves plant⁻¹, days to full bloom, plant spread, flower diameter, shelf life and number of branches plant⁻¹.
