Economic management of even-aged forest stands can be evaluated with management criteria, some of which use a discount factor. Among these last, the present net value of an infinite series (PNVIS) of like rotations is used for stands considered independently, and the present net value taking into account the capital cost of the stumpage volume is used for stands managed collectively. Our objective consists in showing the effect of the discount rate on the optimal cutting schedule in the long run. An increase of the discount rate concerns the cutting schedule: it reduces the rotation and, in the case of PNVIS, it postpones lightly the thinnings. The numbers of thinning is proportional to the length of the stand improvement period, but one can notice a surprising steadiness of the global weight of the first two thinnings. The last thinning tends to become a partial anticipated final cut. The final number of stems changes in a nonmonotonous way with the discount rate while the share of the final stand in the total yield decreases regularly when the discount rate increases. Finally, the sylviculture is more regular and gradual for high rates than for low rates.
