Prevelance of leaf spots caused by Cylindrocladium scoparium in planting stock of Eucalyptus and its management
2013
Rattan, G.S. | Singh, Parminder
Leaf spots caused by Cylindrocladium scoparium have emerged as one of the major factors for the poor quality of seedling stock of Eucalyptus in Punjab in recent years. During survey of the state, Ludhiana and Jalandhar nurseries were found to be badly infected by this disease, where incidence of 97.9% and 80.0%, respectively was recorded. Clonal screening of Eucalyptus at forest department nursery of Sangrur revealed that none of the clones was resistant to this disease. Under in vitro conditions, complete mycelial inhibition of the fungus was observed with Bavistin 50WP at a low concentration of 10 μg/ml, followed by Dithane M-45 at 250 μg/ml. Under nursery conditions, all the fungicides viz. Contaf, Tilt, Bavistin, Dithane M-45 and Dithane M-45+Bavistin were highly effective in almost completely checking the disease. However, Contaf was superior to others as it gave maximum reduction in defoliation (79.8%) over control, due to disease.
