The vegetative propagation of dendrological ornamental species in nursery by cutting method is widely used in horticultural practice. Rooting rate of semi-hard cuttings is usually low in ornamental plants (Iliescu, 1998). The main topics of the present works were to establish the best period for cutting and how to use different substrates for the rooting process of some ornamental conifers and deciduous trees. The paper presents the results got on cutting propagation of Thuja occidentalis ‘Columna’, Thuja occidentalis ‘Danica’, Berberis thunbergii ‘Atropurpurea’ and Ligustrum ovalifolium ‘Aureum’. On conifers (Thuja occidentalis ‘Danica’), the best results were obtained on peat substrate in August, by using the Radistim 2 powdered rooting stimulator. The cuttings of Berberis thunbergii ‘Atropurpurea’ had the highest rooting rate in July, with the same root promoter on perlite substrate.
