Efficacy of methanolic leaf extracts of Hyptis suaveolens and Vitex negundo on protein concentration in midgut tissue of Orthaga exvinacea Hampson (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) was studied under laboratory conditions. Fresh mango leaves were treated with different concentrations (1%, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5%) of each of the two botanicals used and fed to the last instar larvae of Orthaga for 48 hours. The protein concentration in the midgut tissue of both treated and control showed that there was a considerable decrease in the protein content in the midgut tissue of experimental insects. The decrease in protein content was correlated with increase in concentration of botanicals. The results showed that Vitex negundo has more potency than Hyptis suaveolens.
